Montane Torren Waterproof Jacket Women’s

I wore this jacket every day on a 7-day Overland Track hike in Tasmania. We had one day of sun. The rest was snow or rain, including sideways sleet and hail. I stayed dry throughout, apart from one day with a little damp on my inner layer after hours of howling wind and waist-deep snow.

Ventilation is strong. The pit zips dump heat fast and the fabric breathes well. Most days I wore a merino long-sleeve underneath. This combo kept me warm and dry without overheating.

Pocket volume is good. The pack waistband cuts off the lower part, so I had to scoop items up before buckling, which was annoying. Sleeve length is excellent for long arms. I cinched the cuffs over gloves for a tighter seal. I chose my usual size. Fit allows easy layering without looking baggy.

The hood design works. It comes up high over the lower face and tightens with the toggles to leave a small opening in wind and rain. The stiff brim helps shed water.

Durability impressed me. I pushed through scratchy, snow-laden branches and saw no wear and tear.

Overall, a strong performer in rough alpine weather. I recommend it.

This jacket proved to be a winner recently on the Overland Track Tasmania. The new roomier fit allows for multiple layers and ease of movement when carrying 15 kilo back pack. I like the longer length in the back. It was also comfortable to sleep in, adding extra warmth on one evening when the snow came in. The full length pockets could fit plenty on a day walk including epirb and snacks. The sizing is more generous than previous styles. A winner for me.
