The flat tarp is the quintessential shelter, prized for its versatility, simplicity, and roominess. A flat tarp can be adapted to just about any set of conditions by changing the pitch, and is equally at home as an emergency shelter on a day-long ski tour or as a group hangout for cooking on a rainy backpacking trip.

The SlingFin NFT is a 9.5' x 10' flat tarp that addresses several qualms we had with most flat tarps by adding subtle catenary curves around the long edges, which make for a gorgeous, taut pitch in the A-frame configuration, unlike straight-edged tarps, which tend to flap due to bias stretch in the large side panels. However, we didn't add a caternary cut to the ridgeline seam so your pitching configurations wouldn't be limited to an A-frame. We also added cord tensioners at both ends of the guylines to make trekking pole positioning straightforward and quick.

The 10D NY66 ripstop sil/sil fabric is perfect for the NFT. It has already been field-proven in our Portal, SplitWing, and 2Lite. It's ludicrously packable, has a terrific strength-to-weight ratio, absorbs less water (and sags less) than PU-coated fabrics, and has astounding UV resistance.

The NFT comes loaded with 6 pre-attached 1.5mm reflective Dyneema guylines, 4 accessory guylines, and 12 of the larger 8" long DAC J-stakes so you can pitch the NFT anywhere, any way.

With its packability, light weight, and practically unlimited pitch configurations, we'll think you'll agree... this is a Nice Flat Tarp.

About slingfin

SlingFin was founded in 2010 with one simple goal. Build the strongest, most innovative, no-expense-spared outdoor equipment in the world.

Slingfin represents the sum total of founder Martin Zemitis’ three decades of experience in the outdoor industry. After designing for The North Face and Sierra Designs for around a decade he co-founded Mountain Hardwear, where he designed equipment until 2009. Eventually he began to desire more freedom to design without the constraints of price targets and decided it was time to take things in a new direction. Soon thereafter, SlingFin was born.

Slingfin started making high alpine-focused dream tents that people on Everest would use as windbreaks for other tents. After a while, they realized the demand for shelters that can stand up to the elements extends well beyond the high alpine. Since then they’ve kept the strength-to-weight ratio of their tents at the forefront of their product development process. Choosing materials that improve the long-term durability of the products even if they’re more expensive, because they believe a good tent should be a long-term investment. Through thoughtful design, premium materials, and a deep understanding of tensile structures, Slingfin have created a full lineup of tents that can withstand much harsher conditions than other tents in their weight class.

SlingFin is an employee-owned, self-funded company. This means no suits, no “bean-counters”, and no pressure to maximize profit at the expense of quality. They’re small, lean, and scrappy, and they like it that way. Making the gear they want to use, not the gear a VC firm thinks will get them the best ROI. Their designs are inspired by the desire for stronger, lighter gear. Drawing on their deep industry heritage and passion for the outdoors to ensure that the materials, attention to detail, and build quality of their products are impeccable.
